Exploring a Bizarre Steam Game Trial: Playing as a Piece of Feces with the Goal to Arrive at the Toilet

Steam Next Fest is now live, and players have found plenty of engaging creations from small studios. But, one is particularly notable for its quirky concept. Named Unko Technica, this classic-feel platformer features a character that is literally a dung attempting to travel to a toilet. In case you're wondering, "Unko" translates to "poop."

The gameplay is simple: just use a one button to leap. Throughout 150 levels, encounter boss fights and access a market to buy customizations for your dung hero.

Time your jumps with caution, since one mistake requires starting over. Bounce on bubbles to propel your character upward, navigate disappearing platforms, and interact with triggers to reveal secret routes. Earn currency for buying tougher levels in which gameplay ramps up.

Visually, the demo shows off eye-catching stages and catchy soundtrack. The simple art featuring morphing abstract forms evokes memories of players of beloved games like Earthbound.

While it's tough to think of previous releases where you control a piece of feces, interactive entertainment often incorporated fecal matter. As an illustration, in Death Stranding, players make grenades from character excrement. Titles such as Palworld and Ark: Survival Evolved use dung as fertilizer. Naturally, such content shows up a lot in Obsidian's role-playing game The Stick of Truth.

Putting aside its humorous idea, Unko Technica has already earned notable awards, like being named best at a major publisher's GYAAR Studio in 2023. A playable preview is ready now on Steam, with the full game scheduled to launch on Steam on November 19.
